UV-A and UV-B radiation both play a role in the photodamage of hair. Shorter wavelength, more powerful UV-B radiation (290-320nm) penetrates the hair cuticle, resulting in a loss of natural hair colour and tensile strength. Exposure to UV-A radiation (320-400nm) can cause a significant reduction in the vibrancy and depth of colour of dyed hair.
Medvance offers two of the most widely used and effective Benzophenone-based UV filters to help reduce the damaging effects of the sun and provide colour-fade protection for dyed hair.
Ben-3 finds applications in hair care forumlations as well as skin creams, decorative cosmetics with sun protection factor (SPF) and as preservative (UV-filter) for UV-sensitive preparations.
